Top 10 Reasons that I am not hip and trendy

Top Ten Reasons that I am not hip and trendy:

1. I've never seen a reality television show. I hear about them during the morning radio talk shows on my way to work, but I've never actually seen one.
2. Who is Lindsay Lohan and why should I care about her celebrity status? I think she's on the television show Desperate Housewives but since I’ve never seen that show, I really can't say for sure.
3. I hate everything Oprah.
4. I think McDonald's coffee is better than Starbucks.
5. Cell phones should be used to make phone calls, not to take photos or listen to music. They should ring like phones so I want to answer it, not get up and dance.
6. I don't understand what the big deal is about lunch meat wrapped in a tortilla. It's still lunch meat with 3,000 milligrams of sodium so how can it be called a healthy choice?
7. I still think Cosmopolitans are yummy. I know Sex and the City was cancelled a few years back now and that the Cosmo craze died when the show died but after all, I live in Milwaukee, we're just getting into crop pants and iPods.
8. I believe that tennis shoes a.k.a. sneakers a.k.a. athletic shoes should only be worn in the gym. I don't care if they are as expensive as a pair of Jimmie Choos. They are still just gym shoes.
9. I have never and will never try sushi.
10. I do not use text messaging. See #5.

101 in 1001

The Mission:Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days? Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as new year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Free Association

Free association is described as a "psychonanalytic procedure in which a person is encouraged to give free rein to his or her thoughts and feelings, verbalizing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content." Over time, this technique is supposed to help bring forth repressed thoughts and feelings that the person can then work through to gain a better sense of self.

That's an admirable goal, but for the purposes of this exercise, we're just hoping to have a little fun with the technique. Each week I'll post ten words to which you can respond to with the first thing that comes to mind. "Rules are, there are no rules." There are no right or wrong answers. Don't limit yourself to one word responses; just say everything that pops into your head.

This is from a website I found:
http://subliminal.lunanina.com/trackback/8984/ .

OK, I'm bored, I wanna play. Maybe I will even tell my shrink about this and she might find some deep meaning in it. Or maybe not.

  1. Desire :: naked
  2. Sleep :: comfort
  3. Lost :: darkness
  4. 2006 :: fear
  5. Pump :: muscles
  6. Space :: astronomy
  7. Stuck :: marriage
  8. Reference:: library
  9. Birth:: new beginnings
  10. Hand:: help

Hmmm...It didn't do anything for me.

To do list

Why is it that I have all this energy while I'm sitting here at work, listing all the things in my head that I want to do when I get home then when I get home I don't do any of them??

I need to do my taxes which terrifies me.
I still have some files to organize.
I need to finish my quilt.
I need to do some homework.
I need to organize my work clothes.
I need to create new playlists in Itunes.

These are not difficult tasks but I just fade away when I leave here.

5 things

I read this on another blog. I would give credit to the original author if I could remember who's it was. It made me think about what my version would look like and how each year some things on this list should change. At least I would like to hope that I would broaden my horizons enough to make it change...

5 snacks I enjoy... peanuts, carrots & dill dip, granny smith apple slices, chips & salsa, chocolate teddy grahams.

5 bands that i know the lyrics of MOST of their songs... (sadly enough they are all bands that have been around forever) The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash, Hall & Oates, Michael Bolton (I can't believe that I am admitting to this one).

5 things I would do with $100,000,000... set up a trust fund for each of my children and other family members that they can immediately draw upon, pay off the church's mortgage, quit my job, do volunteer work, travel the world.

5 locations I'd like to run away to... Tahiti, New Zealand, Italy, Galapagos Islands, Alaska

5 bad habits I have... rolling my eyes at people, being judgmental, impatient driving, criticizing and complaining about others, untangling my hair by running my fingers through it, yanking it out and leaving it where it lay.

5 things I like doing... laying in the sun, reading good books and magazines, cooking and baking, running, touring the country on a Harley.

5 current TV shows I like... Deadwood, Entourage, Bill Maher, Rome, Six Feet Under (do you see a pattern here?).

5 past TV shows I like... Cybill, Thirtysomething, Northern Exposure, Evening Shade, St. Elsewhere.

5 movies I like... Life or Something Like It, My Blue Heaven, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Doc Hollywood, Le Divorce.

5 famous people (who are still alive) I'd like to meet... Bill Clinton, Jesse James (West Coast Choppers), Lance Armstrong, Janet Reno, Muhammad Ali.

5 biggest joys at the moment... I'm graduating in 6 weeks, my family, Toby, springtime, planning my next vacation.

No school this week

I have no school for the next week and I'm not sure what to do with my time. I could list at least 5 fun projects and a few chores that I've put off but somehow sitting here dwelling about all of them seems to be the thing to do. I know I just need to focus and pick one so maybe if I list them it will make things seem clearer....

  • Put the binding on the quilt.
  • Finish the wall hanging.
  • Make beaded bracelets.
  • Finish my new web page.
  • Work on a jigsaw puzzle.
  • Straighten up in the basement.
  • Clean my office.
  • Empty the clothes baskets.

It's not helping. Of course vegging the rest of the night with a Corona and a fire will be good for the soul. Regroup and start again tomorrow.
